long time, no see

I had almost forgotten I had this blog. It has been about 2 years since I last posted. There have been so many changes and challenges lately that I find I need the advice and support from a larger community. I truly hope that more people will follow my blog and offer up ideas and information. At the moment I find myself in the position of being a grandparent raising a small child.

In the dark, literally and figuratively

I'm sitting here looking at the icy, snowy covered deck. I had to open the blinds because the power is out. The room is starting to get chilly. I'm glad we bought some wood last night but I have to admit I'm a little concerned. How long do we have to be in the dark and cold before real concern takes over? I remember the ice storm some years back, my power was out almost three days. I wish we had more wood and definitely more candles.

Two weeks in

Well now we are two weeks into the new year. I have to admit they have been productive. I have started (billed) more accounts so far this month than I have in any given month in over 18 months. Since this is the year of the Horse,  I am going to try to ride this pony as long as I can.

Happy New Year everyone. Today has been a day to reflect on last year and look forward to the new year. I don't have any resolutions but I do have an intention. My intention is to let my friends and family know I love them.

The Weather is Cray Cray

I don't mind fall being here, really I don't. But I would hope that the weather would make up its mind. Chilly one day, warm the next, with a sprinkling of intermittent rain. I am constantly under or over dressed. I have never mastered the layering of clothing, so I can never peel off excessive layers effectively. So I guess I will continue to dress inadequately for weather conditions until it kind of settles in to what ever it is going to be.

The Election

Wow, this election is a real nail biter. I don't remember one this close in a long time.

ATM

Why can't some people accept that using an ATM is outside their skill sets? If you can't complete your transaction in 3 minutes or less you should probably go to the drive thru or maybe even inside. A couple of weeks ago I was behind a guy who got so frustrated that he actually pinched the machine.

Vote

Well I did my civic duty, I actually took advantage of early voting. I'm ashamed to say I didn't recognize some of the offices and candidates on the ballot. Joy and I went on our lunch break. To be honest I did not know who I was voting for until I was staring at the ballot. So now all I can do is hope it all works out.

Todays rant and maybe a rave

Rant: Yesterday, I had to make a quick (or at least I hoped quick) stop at the grocery store for more Halloween candy. I got my items and only had about 10 and got in the 15 item or less lane. I then noticed that a shopper waiting in line at the regular lane next to me go out of line. I peaked over and saw the customer at the register already had all items on the counter and the cashier was ringing her items. So I thank Heaven for my good luck and scoot over to that lane. As I am putting my groceries on the counter, I notice that some shopper had left their hand held grocery basket on the floor next to that check out. I'm thinking maybe they left it there to go grab another item. As it turns out they had gotten tired of waiting as well as the shopper who had gotten out of line moved to another checkout. Anywho, the cashier is still trying to ring out this couple who don't appear to have a lot of groceries and it looks like maybe canned goods, is he new or something? I take this opportunity to go ahead and fill out my check, all but the amount. They are still ringing the items, I admit I am a bit impatient. So I reposition myself so I am in front of  my cart instead of behind it. Now I can hear the conversation, the customer is trying to figure out what is the best bargain so she is having the cashier scan and check to see which items are on special and eligible for store rebate and can use a coupon. So bear in mind, I have now been in this lane at least 5 minutes and we still ain't done. So finally, finally this customer is happy with the items and the amount. The cashier totals, "Did you give me my senior discount?" she asks. So he adds the discount. Now she reaches in her purse, pulls out a checkbook, opens it, smooths the check, and she looks up and says "Got a pen?"

Rave: My grandkids looked fabulous in their Halloween costumes.

Rants and Raves

The Rant: I had to swing by our local Sears to pick up an item from the merchandise pick-up. All the parking spots for the pick up area were occupied. Of course, I rolled my eyes and anticipated a bit of a wait since there were four pickups ahead of me. I finessed myself into a non authorized spot, I admit I shouldn't have but I was prepared to move it if I blocked anyone. Lo and Behold, there was no one waiting  for mechandise pick up. So all the cars parked, were by shoppers who somehow justified to themselves it was okay to take up spaces clearly designated for a specific purpose.

The Rave: Austin, the (very) young man working in parcel pickup, was very helpful. He showed me how to locate my order by my phone number and then went back and pulled my merchandise with alacrity. He was very nice and seemed to genuinely want to help me. I saw no signs of TVC (thinly veiled contempt), which, sadly, I see all too often in a younger workforce.

Sheeesss baaaack

Good Morning All,

Well it has been quite awhile since I posted anything. Don't really know why, things are going on all the time. So, that being said, I am going to try to be more diligent posting the things that catch my attention.

Went to a dear friends Halloween party this weekend. Had a blast as usual, I am always so anxious to see what clever or corny costumes my friends will be wearing .Many of these friends will be treking off to the Renaisance Fair in Charlotte next weekend (another chance for adults to wear costumes). I always think I would like to go but that would seriously damage my street cred.

Its That Time of Year

I think this is one of my favorite times of the year. Everything is in bloom and it is not too hot, yet. I normally feel energized but for some reason I just 'ain't feelin' it'. I am not willing to admit that my age might be a factor. It is getting harder and harder to convince myself I am only 34.

Master's Week

Well another spring break has come and gone. We have seen the gamut of weather from A to Z. I know a lot of my friends took the opportunity to get out of town and avoid the tourists and traffic. I, personally, only heard of 2 celebrity sightings: Johnny Depp and Kevin Bacon. I guess I will never get to see a celebrity, that is unless they are at Kroger or the Bi-Lo. Or the Walmart if I happen to be 'big ballin'.

Celebrating the Royal Wedding

Well, my friends and I are getting together on April 29th to join in the celebration of William and Kate's nuptuals. What started as a simple tea and sandwiches has evolved into a get together of giddy anticipation. We all decided, early on, to dress up. We all plan to wear hats or some kind of head embellishment to honor the royals. I even bought gloves. I have not worn gloves since I attended the Military Ball, in high school. And yes, they had balls and high school back then. We have shopped hats and some made hats and certainly tried on a multitude of hats. This is really kind of fun, playing dress up and drinking tea and/or mimosas. I will keep you posted and I will try to capture some pictures.

Sunny Day

Well it is still a bit chilly outside the sun is shining. A lot has gone on this week. Madison got her braces on so I will be in debt to the Orthodontist for a while. She is very excited and is tolerating the discomfort like a champ. There is  big issue going on with a family member, I cannot say who or what to protect their anonimity, but this is a very trying time. At work we are all being moved again. They are flip flopping the upstairs folks and downstairs folks. I still do not see the logic in it, but for some reason the powers that be do not feel compelled to consult with me...go figure.

Sushi???

I guess I just don't get it. I cannot fathom why people like food that isn't cooked. Going to a Japanese steakhouse tonight. I guarantee everything I eat will be cooked.

I admit I am technically challenged

I forgot my password so it took me this long to post again.  Well this was a busy week. I took Maddie to the orthodontist. She has to have partial braces and an appliance that has to be 'turned' with a key. But we knew she was going to have to have braces, I was hoping it was still a couple of years off. Otherwise the week was nice, the weather was VERY nice.

Lazy Sunday

Today was such a lay about kind of day.I threw on some shorts and an old tshirt and ran a few errands. I went by the Home Depot. Have I mentioned I LOVE hardware stores? I think I must have been a carpenter or plumber in a previous life.
